Every year SBA enters teams into the EYBA Spring League. What do we provide?
What is important to note is that unlike the regular (winter) season, we do not register individual players. Spring league is made up of teams that are put together by a Coach/Manager/Parent.
SBA, will, however, take names onto a waiting list. In this case, you need to email sbabasketball@shaw.ca and provide me with the following information:
There are no guarantees for placement. Should a coach/manager be looking for another player for his/her team, I will provide them with your contact information.
The registration fee is structured as follows:
- $1500 per team (EYBA fees)
- $300 per team (fees that include a 1.5 hour practice per week, in Sherwood Park, as well as use of basketballs, uniforms, electronic score board)
- $1800 per team payable to SBA
IMPORTANT: EYBA's deadline is March 16th, 2012. However, if you put a team in under SBA, please note the deadline will be March 9th, 2012.
If you have a team, please contact Darlene at sbabasketball@shaw.ca. Send me what division you are entering, gender, team name, along with your players' names.
Also, advise if you are in need of any players as there may be a waiting list for your division.
It is important that you have all players/parents sign up with the appropriate spring league (EYBA) individual registration form that are linked from this site below OR from EYBA's spring league information site (NOT from EYBA's home page listed under 'Administration').
Once you have confirmed with Darlene via email, you can drop off your completed individual forms and payment of $1800, in the mailbox at #42 Kirklees Road, Sherwood Park.
Sorry, but due to deliquencies in the past, a confirmed team is one that is paid in full. No spot will be held if you are not paid.
SBA receipts will be emailed once your team is confirmed and we know what your individual fee will be ($1800 / number of players = individual fee). Please ensure your players/parents provide a hand-written and legible email address on the form.

SBA Basketball would like to take this opportunity to thank Shell Canada for their very generous donation of $998. This will assist the Organization with the purchase of necessary equipment. Thanks also needs to go out to SBA Vice President and Coach, Mike Robins, for his initiative with this grant and for his volunteer services with SBA that made this possible!

UNIFORM CARE
ALL SBA uniforms should be washed in cold water and hung to dry. Absolutely, no warm or hot water and they should NOT be put in the dryer. Thanks for your cooperation.
Note: At the end of the season, both the uniform top and shorts MUST be returned in order to get the uniform deposit cheque destroyed. Failure to return full uniform in good condition (clean and undamaged) will result in the cashing of a uniform cheque.
Parents help required to help SBA keep gyms in our house league, tykes league and the EYBA league:
-- outdoor shoes MUST be removed at the doors entered (feel free to bring indoor shoes to change into); -- absolutely no food or drinks, besides water bottles with water, are allowed in the gym - NO coffee; -- ALL children must be supervised, and no children should be in any of the school's hallways for any length of time except for quick bathroom breaks); -- ALL of SBA rules must be followed as outlined in the fair play form that is posted under 'Coaches.' -- if any of the rules outlined are not being followed by a parent, another parent has the right to advise.
We have been very fortunate to have a great parent group that does continue to follow the rules set out by the school boards. Please continue to comply and we won't have to turn kids away because of gyms lost.
Thanks very much for your cooperation and let's keep those basketballs dribbling!!

Gym Care Reminder:
Near the bottom of this home page there is a list of 'rules' that apply to our gym rentals.
We are having problems convincing some people that outdoor wet/dirty shoes/boots MUST be removed and left at the door. If you are distrusting that your shoes will remain there and not get stolen, bring a bag to put them in and take them with you where you sit to watch the game. Please ensure the floor is kept clean and dry. We are being threatened of losing Pine Street School & St. Theresa School, gyms where we have four divisions playing in. We lose the gyms, we lose a bunch of games played there, eventually we cannot run the league and the kids lose out. Gyms are extremely hard to come by, so please comply by our rules. If we lose Pine Street or St. T's, there is NO alternative.
Two more reminders; all players/coaches/parents/siblings must remain in the gym at all times during the games (obviously, bathroom breaks are allowed). Siblings cannot be left alone unsupervised in the hallways. As well, ONLY water can be brought into the gyms. Not allowed in the gyms: coffee in cups, coffee in travel mugs, gatorade, etc..
We are very thankful to those that do comply with the rules as set out by the School Boards (not SBA rules). Thank you for your continued cooperation! Unfortunately, it only takes one or two to ruin it for the rest. If you could help out by reminding those that do not comply, SBA would be very grateful!
Interested in being a Referee? If you or your child (over 12 years of age) want to sign up for next season to officiate in SBA's house league (divisions U11, U13 & U15), please email Adrienne & Stephane Labonne at labonne@telus.net.
SBA's referee clinic FOR 2011 is TBA but tentatively on Saturday, October 15th from 1:30-3pm at Archbishop Jordan High School. Once confirmed (in September) you can send Adrienne a note to let her know you will be attending!
Interested in being an EBOA Official? See under 'Officials' on the left panel. The EBOA needs referees for Community League and/or Jr. & Sr. High House league/tykes game schedules and rules of play are posted under each division.
Practice schedule with complete omit dates are posted under 'coaches.' When new omit dates come up, the coach will be contacted by email. Any additional dates will also be added to the webpage.
Coaches; if you are interested in any dates that are listed as 'spare,' please let me know. These dates can be booked on a 1st-come 1st-served basis. Thank you so much for coaching this season, and I hope it's a great experience for everybody. TBA: PLEASE NOTE DOCUMENT UNDER 'COACHES' FOR SPARE GYM SELECTIONS.
ALL COACHES/PLAYERS/PARENTS: Please read the SBA Rules of Play document under 'coaches.' These are SBA rules that MUST be followed. Everybody needs to think of the children first and make positive memories for them... our key goal is to ensure that the kids have lots of fun. Coaches: We want you to base your success on whether or not your players come back to play SBA Basketball year after year... don't base your success on your wins and losses. They won't remember those, but they will remember the fun they had. We must all be positive and make the season an enjoyable one for all players.
Please note that if a gym does not open for you at the time contracted (either on game day or practice day), there is nobody that can be contacted at that time. SBA does NOT have any keys to any of the schools nor any phone numbers to any caretaker/school hosts that are responsible for opening/closing the doors for us. However, please forward an email to sbabasketball@shaw.ca if a gym does NOT open for you on a practice or game day and it will be dealt with on the following business day. Thank you.
Have FUN!!!!
For the 2011-12 season, we have now completed the registration process. We cannot take any more players for any of our teams. Those interested in next season can stay tuned to our website next May-June when we start the early-bird registration process for the 2012-2013 season. Thanks!
